I was once desirable. I remember the day I rolled off the factory assembly line and every part of me was shiny and new. My paint was smooth without defect. My chrome was perfect not a pit to be found. My interior was clean and comfortable with that wonderful new car smell. My engine was clean not a fluid leak one.
I also remember the special night I drove off the transport truck and onto the showroom floor. While I was being meticulously cleaned and polished from grill to fins, my radio was dialed into Wolfman Jack and the showroom rocked as tunes like Jailhouse Rock and Rock Around the Clock echoed from my interior. I was a sight to be seen, I was the star of the showroom floor.
For the next few days the showroom belonged to me. I was the object of desire for everyone that walked down the sidewalk or drove down the street and caught a glance of my sparkling paint and chrome. I distracted many from their daily errands when I caught that passing glance they had to come in and take a closer look. Men and women alike would slide their hand from the tip of my headlight trim to the tip of my tailfin. Next the men would usually raise my hood and peer into my engine compartment; the women would open the the door and sit behind my big steering wheel and feel the comfort of my interior and breathe in my new car smell.
On the Friday of the first week I drove off the showroom floor on my way to my new home inside a nice cozy garage of my own. But not before we made a stop at the Car Hop Grill. I spent a many Friday and Saturday nights at the Car Hop Grill and at the Twilight Drive In theater. Those were the good old days.
Now, the years have taken their toll on my paint, chrome and interior. Oxidation and rust have taken the place of new paint and chrome. The glory days are gone and now I sit and wait in hopes of catching the eye of someone again. Maybe one day the right person will look at me again the way all people looked at me when I was new. Maybe someone can still see me for what I used to be and for what I could be again.
Are you the one that will bring back that sparkle and shine that I lost long ago?
Are you the one that will bring back that rumble under my hood?
Are you the one that will one day take me for a cruise again to your favorite Car Hop Grill?
I have been waiting a long time………I hope you are the one.
Sincerely,
The Classic of Your Dreams
